[edit]From Proto-Balto-Slavic *wálˀgāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *wolg-eh₂, from *welg- (“moist; wet”). Cognate with Albanian lagë (“moisture”), Latvian pa-val̃ga, Lithuanian pa-valgà, Old Prussian welgen, Proto-Germanic *wulkaną.
