Etymology

Of uncertain substrate origin. Part of the Indo-Aryan "defective" group of words. Etymologically unrelated to Prakrit 𑀡𑀝𑁆𑀞 (ṇaṭṭha, destroyed) < Sanskrit नष्ट (naṣṭá), though some descendants have been influenced/contaminated by it.
