From Proto-Iranian *cwitah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćwitas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háćwaytˢt ~ *Háćwitan + *-tas, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱwéyt-t ~ *ḱwit-ént, from *ḱweyt- (to shine). Cognate with Avestan 𐬯𐬞𐬌𐬙𐬀 (spita).[1]
