Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Latin humilis,[1] ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dʰéǵʰōm (“earth; human”), whence related Proto-Brythonic *dün (“person”). Parallel borrowing with Old Irish umal (“humble”).
