Etymology

[edit]

From Proto-Finno-Permic *olke ~ *ulke, akin to Erzya олго (olgo) (< *ulke). Further origin unknown. As agricultural terminology, the word is unlikely to derive from Proto-Uralic; possibly from the Pre-West Uralic agricultural substrate.
