Etymology[edit]
From a root suffixed with *-kô, a suffix used for body parts; compare Proto-Germanic *kelkô (“jaw-bone”), *mankô (“mane”). Both *leuhsaz (“light”) and *lahwaz (“thigh”) have been suggested for the root.
