Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *bélom, from *bel- (strong). Cognate with Proto-Slavic *boľьjь (bigger, better), Ancient Greek βελτίων (beltíōn, better), Latin dēbilis (weak, crippled).[1][2]
