[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hayā́mti, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂e-yḗm-ti ~ *h₂e-yem-énti, from *yem- (“to take hold, restrain”). Cognate with Sanskrit अयमुर् (ayamur, “have stretched out”).
