Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *kréiwas, from Proto-Indo-European *kreywos. Cognate with Latvian krievs, Lithuanian kreivas, krivis, Latin curvus (from zero-grade) and indirectly Latvian krails, Old Irish cruind, and Ancient Greek κορωνός (korōnós).
