Proto-Slavic

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Hypothetically an o-stem noun back-formed from *mēnsā́ˀ, the plural of Proto-Balto-Slavic *mḗns, from Proto-Indo-European *mḗms[1]. Then original singulative would be *mę (< *mḗms), but also *męso could be from *mémsos < *mémss (compare: *bratrъ from *bʰréh₂tros < *bʰréh₂t(e)rs).
