From Proto-Balto-Slavic *seˀi- / Proto-Balto-Slavic *sˀi-, from Proto-Indo-European *seh₁y-. Cognate with Latvian sijāt, Lithuanian sijóti, and Ancient Greek ἠθέω (ēthéō).
