It is not clear if the partial-reduplication of verb roots in descent languages was also present in this form in Proto-Yoruboid, but if so, compare with *ɛ̀-lɪ̀là. Ultimately from *là, which could be related to Yoruba (to rot), or perhaps related to a root for "crawl."
