It is not clear if the partial-reduplication of verb roots in descent languages was also present in this form in Proto-Yoruboid, but if so, compare with *ɛ̀-lɪ̀là. Ultimately from *là, which could be related to Yoruba rà (“to rot”), or perhaps related to a root for "crawl."
