From Proto-Indo-European *pérwr̥, and cognate with Hittite 𒁉𒂊𒊒 (pé-e-ru /⁠peru⁠/), 𒁉𒊒𒈾 (pé-ru-na /⁠peruna⁠/), 𒁉𒂊𒊒𒈾 (pé-e-ru-na /⁠peruna⁠/), Sanskrit पर्वत (párvata-), and Avestan 𐬞𐬀𐬎𐬭𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬙𐬁 (pauruuatā).[1][2]
