Reconstruction talk:Latin/aetaticum

This form seems to belong specifically to Proto-Gallo-Romance, not Proto-Romance in general, to judge by the descendants. The original Latin word (aetas, aetatis) actually has reflexes in Old French, modern Catalan, and modern Occitan (see Latin entry, under #descendants), not to mention in other branches of Romance. Altogether that suggests that aetaticum was a late, localized innovation.

That said, I do not think we have a policy for dealing with Proto-Gallo-Romance yet. What to do? The Nicodene (talk) 00:20, 12 July 2021 (UTC)

In my opinion this should be deleted. There doesn't seem to be any evidence that it existed during the Proto-Romance period. It can easily have been formed later by replacing one suffix with another. In fact, there is not just lack of evidence for it, there is additional evidence against it, insofar as the phonetic weakness of the "aetas" etymon only arose much later. 88.64.225.53 21:04, 27 January 2024 (UTC)
