Etymology

The meaning of this word rather implies a connection with *fehaną (“to rejoice”). Kroonen refers to it as the past participle of *fehaną, but its past participle would be *feganaz. Rather, it would be the past participle of an unattested o-grade root present *fahaną, which would have been homophonous with the unattested zero-grade root present reflex of the root *peh₂ḱ-, also *fahaną.
