Proto-Slavic?[edit]

@ZomBear I doubt it is PS. No OES/OCS/Old Czech, this word spread through Carpathian shepherds. Sławobóg (talk) 12:21, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Sławobóg I just quoted {{R:sla:ESSJa}} & {{R:uk:ESUM}} where the Proto-Slavic *capъ is indicated. By the way, I found that the Old Ruthenian цапъ (cap) was first attested in the 16th century. ZomBear (talk) 15:42, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
We should be more critical. A lot of words with alleged PS origin arose or were borrowed after the PS era, compare Rzym, Żyd, krzyż (vs alleged *Rimъ, *židъ). Sławski and Boryś were aware of the words, yet they ignored it in Słownik Prasłowiański. Machek didn't say anything about PS form too. Sławobóg (talk) 16:08, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@ZomBear: It does not seem—I have noted on other occasions already—, that ESSJa confides in every headword they offer. They start off by writing an imagined form on a record card and gather all material in favour of it, and if it hasn’t stayed a fragment they publish it anyway. Here their choice of presentation seems to be intended to suggest that a post-Proto-Slavic Romance borrowing is the most proper view and an earlier borrowing a less likely alternative. Theres pretty well documented PS interjection capъ! with probable PBS etymology, I can replace currect content with that. Sławobóg (talk) 20:30, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
@ZomBear so, can we decide about removing first etymology? Proto-Slavic stage rejected by: Boryś, Sławski, Králik, Machek, Brückner. Sławobóg (talk) 20:17, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Sławobóg nevertheless, I am inclined to believe that this is a very late, but Proto-Slavic dialecticism, of the region of the Carpathian Mountains. ZomBear (talk) 23:32, 31 January 2023 (UTC)Reply
