In Bulgarian and Macedonian, the standard word for cricket is щурец (šturec), штурец (šturec) < *ščurьcь. It looks similar to *svьrčь (probably related via schwebeablaut). Could both be from *sḱewr(k)-?

Additionally, it's possible that the form *svьrčь (from an earlier *skvьrčь(kъ)?) has been affected by *sviřati (“to whistle”) > свирати (svirati, “to play music instrument”), свирьць (svirĭcĭ, “whistle player”). The so-called "macedonian language" is fictional, it's a political term which wasn't used by almost no western scholars and the little that used it were on biased macedonist positions. Also there has to be added that the official language of North Macedonia (which is very serbianized) has almost no basis on and is very distant from the people's native local dialects which retain lots of characteristics that are bulgarian-specific and shared (surprisingly!) by the eastern bulgarian dielects. ALL slavic dialects in Vardar Macedonia WITHOUT any exception are Bulgarian dialects based on their characteristics. Ентусиастъ (talk) 18:44, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
