Shouldn't it be reconstructed as *ötgün-

It is written as *ötgün- "1. to tell a tale 2. to mimic" in DLT, on top of that Proto-Turkic has no -kUn- suffix as far as I'm aware, this'd also be semantically consistent with derived *ötgünç "story, tale" as well as *ötüg "1. passage 2. wish, prayer". Yorınçga573 (talk) 08:06, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

Reconstruction Problems of *ötgün-

1-) The noninitial *-d- changes to -y- in Oghuz languages.

2-) If the stem had equipped with the suffix *-gün, Sakha form would be such as үтүөн (ütüön).

3-) The consonants *g and *k in PT sometimes derives through metathesis in Southern Altai. Ardahan Karabağ (talk) 08:13, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

For the first point, one could argue that PTR *t got voiced to *d by the time of Proto-Oghuz

For the 2nd point we do see that *g got unvoiced to *k by the time of DLT as it also mentions *ötkün-

Ontop of that I see no logical connection to *öd "time" as the root whereas *ötüg "1. passage, passing 2. wish, prayer" makes logical sense, compared to, for example, Turkish serden geç "to pass from the head" or öt- "to make a noise, to sound" and Arabic ḥakā "1. to imitate 2. to tell, to report".
