Frisian

[edit]

The modern West Frisian word is kers, with variations such as karse. I don't think this word can be inherited, because there would have to be palatalisation (compare tsjerke < tzirke < *kirikā). Can we determine whether it was borrowed from Low German or from Dutch? Or perhaps different variants from both? —Rua (mew) 19:41, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

A Dutch borrowing seems the obvious fit. --{{victar|talk}} 22:35, 18 April 2020 (UTC)Reply
