Galician[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Attested in local Medieval documents as Suevos. From Latin suēvōs (“Suebi”), from Proto-Germanic *swēbaz, from Proto-Indo-European *swé (“self”): probably because these places were settled by the Suebi people who established in Galicia and Northern Portugal in the 5th century.
