Etymology[edit]

From Old Norse *Sunniflir, originally a fjord name. First part from sunnr (south), last part possibly from *viflir (low, wet terrain). Another, unlikely, suggestion is *heflir.

Sunnylven m

  1. A parish, village and former municipality of Sunnmøre district, Møre og Romsdal, Norway.

Usage notes[edit]

The municipality merged with Stranda in 1964, but the parish still covers the same area. Compare the former Dalsfjord municipality in Volda.
