Is "Punctuation mark" correct for something that replaces bold or italics? I don't consider that punctuation. Equinox 01:08, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Usage in actions[edit]

@Daniel Carrero In German, I've seen the stem of a verb used, e.g. *rot werd*. Here's a reference. Nibiko (talk) 07:15, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In German boards one writes "*Keks geb*" or "*dir einen Keks geb*" for *gives [you] a cookie* and this is not 3rd person. Maybe also see Inflektiv or Erikativ which is a name sometimes used for the 'stem' in such usages.
Furthermore, I'm not seeing any proof for the statement "typically written in the third-person". And no, it's not my task to verify or falsify the statement, but the person who wants to add this information has to proof it. "in English typically written in the third-person" however should be correct. -84.161.12.4 08:13, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys, for the information about German. I can't see that specific page in the book that you linked, Nibiko, but I believe you. :)
That said, I guess if we want proof about the use of * * in multiple languages, at some point we could add citations from multiple languages in the entry. Naturally, I'm not saying that we need to do it right now, but perhaps eventually.
FWIW, at some point, I helped to build Citations:( ) which is, too, about [1] a Translingual entry and [2] a "matched-pair" entry like * *. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 08:28, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There have been quite a few academic papers that cite Internet chat logs, IRC, MUDs etc.; might be a good place to search. Equinox 15:33, 14 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
