[edit]Doubt about the etymology Stríðsdrengur (talk) 23:01, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- @CristoffreAre you sure this is a loan from Icelandic? It would make more sense for this to be composed of ø + land, by the way, the link you placed does not cover the etymology Stríðsdrengur (talk) 23:02, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

- I find it very weird, which is why my plan was to ask the Tea Room in the morning, as it was getting late, but you basically beat me to that. As the source is a bit older; I wonder if Icelandic might be the same as Norse in this case. --Christoffre (talk) 05:02, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Stríðsdrengur The etymology is covered in the link by two words as I saw it; "[Isl. eyland]. But you might be right, on closer inspection it might only refer to Icelandic as a cognate. --Christoffre (talk) 08:19, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
- I have now rewritten the etymology and removed the "Borrowed from Icelandic" part. I replaced it with "Likely inherited from Old Norse", as it is just a qualified guess from my part and I have no proper source. -- Christoffre (talk) 08:30, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
- I just found it strange because in dictionaries like SAOB it doesn't state the etymology, it just says it's related to Icelandic eyland and some other Danish and Norwegian words Stríðsdrengur (talk) 10:00, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
