According to Ačaṙyan, the Persian and Arabic can also be read barbut. Steingass too has barbut̤. -u- is required to explain Middle Armenian բարբուտ (barbut). --Vahag (talk) 22:27, 22 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Middle Armenian բարբուտ (barbut) is attested only in Matthew of Edessa; բարբութ (barbutʻ) is a variant reading of the same text. It is either from Arabic بربط (barbuṭ) or New Persian بربط if it can be read barbut. --Vahag (talk) 08:19, 23 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
