What suffix?[edit]

Are we saying this is from ὄψ (óps, voice, word)? Does the bird go "dru dru dru" when it hits the tree? Im a bit skeptical. It would make more sense if it were ὄψ (óps, eye, face), since the bird pecks the tree with its beak and the beak is the front of the face, but we have ὤψ (ṓps) for that, which is what's used in other words (though admittedly not as many as I thought, as I guess most of the others are modern scientific coinages).
