Separation into two words?

[edit]

Furnée (1972: 299 fn. 25) doesn't disagree with μύκλος in general being related to the other words. He thinks μύκλοι/μύκλαι in the meaning 'black stripes at the neck and feet of the ass' is an unrelated word. In fact, this Hesychius gloss μύκλοι/μύκλαι 'black stripes at the neck and feet of the ass' perhaps should be mentioned here, since μύκλος 'a fold on the ass's neck' is mentioned. Otherwise, μύκλοι/μύκλαι and μύκλος (the fold meaning) seem to have more to do with each other than with the other meaning, and I don't think the limited attestation gives us enough information to equate them with the 'lascivious' meaning. Perhaps they should be included as a separate word? Kavindad1 (talk) 15:17, 29 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
