@Samubert96: I believe you are messing up words. The sense of a threshing board is distinct, as can be seen by the vowel length in Latin trībulum, whereas the plant is short Latin tribulus; The plant name in Latin is borrowed from this Greek word, whereas the name for a threshing-sledge in Greek is only attested later in plural and is from Latin trībulum. The sense “part of the bit of a bridle” may also belong to it, the other technical senses are from Tribulus terrestris which was used for blocking enemies. So you either should put a new etymology and header on this page or perhaps a new page for that plural (but I doubt it was plurale tantum, the attestation is coincidental).
