According to Russian Wikipedia the city is still called Alma-Ata in Russian.--Hekaheka 10:22, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

As far as I know, it’s like many such changes in English. People called Thailand Siam long after the name was changed to Thailand; people still say Ceylon, Saigon, Bombay, West Germany, and even USSR. But I’ve usually seen Алматы in formal and official documents for the last 15 years. —Stephen 16:17, 21 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
