dialectology letters

[edit]

@Vahagn Petrosyan could you make wiktionary entries for the dialectology letters? It's pretty hard to find out what they mean online. Here's what I could determine based on reading Adjarian 1911

ՠ / ա̈ æ
ա̊   ??
է̀  ??
օ̈ œ
օ̈̀   ??
ո̈ւ ʏ
բՙ bʰ
դՙ dʰ
գՙ ɡʰ
ձՙ d͡zʰ
ջՙ d͡ʒʰ
 ֈ / յ̵ ɦ
ʔ ?? is this supposed to be Arabic /ʕ/ (the 3ayn) or a glottal stop? Hovsepig (talk) 04:12, 22 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Hovsepig: sorry, but I don't want to do that now. Matching Armenian dialectological symbols to IPA is a very difficult task. I have seen only this paper, page 324, but I don't know how reliable it is. I am using ʔ for Acharyan's * in Aslanbek dialect. I assume it is the glottal stop. @Vahagn Petrosyan I don't blame you. I've been translating Adjarian 1911 and I've had to just guess what all his non-standard symbols mean... Thanks for letting me know about Hrach's paper's page. I don't know Russian so I never got to read that article of his. I'll ping him eventually to ask more about it. Hovsepig (talk) 15:05, 22 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Hovsepig: that page is not from Hrach's paper. It is from Ovsepjan L. S., Gevorkjan G. G. // Armjanskije dialekty (obščij obzor) preceding his article in the same journal. Hrach does not use IPA. Vahag (talk) 15:52, 22 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
