Kartvelian borrowing

[edit]

@Solarkoid, you removed ალანძვა (alanʒva) from descendants saying it is an inner-Georgian formation from ლანძვა (lanʒva). I now suspect that աղանձեմ (ałanjem) together with եղինձ (eġinj) is a Kartvelian borrowing. The PIE etymology is irregular. Please check your literature if a native origin has been proposed for ლანძ- (lanʒ-) words. Also ping @კვარია. Vahag (talk) 20:00, 29 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

It seems like the common-Kartvelian root for this meaning was *ṭus-. As for this, Čuxua connected ლანძ- with რუჯვა (ruǯva) which seems to fit, though Fähnrich didn't like that etymology, so it's possible Georgian რუჯი (ruǯi) is borrowed from some other source (and from Georgian into Mingrelian and Laz?). There was yet another proposal for this, which I don't remember who made. კვარია (talk) 06:58, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Honestly @Vahag, if somehow landzv-av-s happened to lose the root -v- it could be easily derived from landzv-i, and I'm inclined to believe it since root -v- and syncoped thematic suffix -v- do merge as ts'v-av-s => ts'v-a (Although in these cases root -v- loss I think is not really usual?). As for the borrowing, considering the initial vowel ա- it's definitely not insensible that Armenian was somehow borrowed from Georgian. Although then we have the thematic suffix a- which was agh- in old Georgian, so I ??? that really... Another consideration is a later backformation taking a- as a preverb - Georgian's seem to love patterns (see Georgian სასახლე (sasaxle)). Also @კვარია, how would landz(v)- connect with ruj-? -Solarkoid (talk) 16:34, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Armenian adds ա- (a-) and ե- (e-) prothetic vowels to words starting with ղ- (ł-), ր- (r-) and ռ- (ṙ-), so we don't have to assume it is the Georgian preverb ა- (a-).
I'm also thinking about deriving աղանդեր (ałander) from Kartvelian, with a participial suffix -ერი (-eri). Vahag (talk) 17:48, 30 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I meant {{R:ccs:Chukhua:2003|page=138}}, if one assumes that ruǯ- is borrowed from Zan, then it kinda fits. კვარია (talk) 09:16, 6 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
