@Vahag: I think that it should be from Iranian origin; from *ham- + *marz "to wipe, rub" (> NK malîn, New Persian mâlidan "to rub") with regular OIr. -m- > NK -v-, compare NK hêvotin from *ham- + *mauč.--Calak (talk) 15:42, 4 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Calak, that makes sense, especially since Armenian has no form with an h-. According to Acaryan, Kurdish has borrowed this as avel in the Dersim dialect. I am away from my dictionaries and can't check if the form exists. --Vahag (talk) 15:53, 4 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
