Iranian

@Vahagn Petrosyan: I cannot assess whether the term for man is inherited or borrowed from Iranian, but this term seems a calque or phono-semantic matching of a term equal to Persian مردم‌خور (mardum-xwâr, cannibal), also Ottoman and Urdu. Fay Freak (talk) 17:39, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Fay Freak: I have long noticed the similarity of this with manticore, but the formation is very natural within Armenian, and most languages form their word for man-eater as "man + eat". There is no indication this is a calque or a phono-semantic matching. --Vahag (talk) 06:59, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
