@Vahagn Petrosyan strangely selects a causative Hovsepig (talk) 02:27, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Hovsepig: I suppressed the causative. Also, I disagree this is suppletive. The stems տես- and տեն- are etymologically related. --Vahag (talk) 10:07, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Vahagn Petrosyan: it’s true that the stem shapes տես տեն are diachronically related, but synchronically going from տեն to տես looks like suppletive Hovsepig (talk) 15:33, 31 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
That's not the definition of suppletion. --Vahag (talk) 10:22, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Vahagn Petrosyan: I’m not sure what definition you follow. I’m used to working under the definition that suppletion involves using two or more phonologically nonidentical roots whose differences can’t be derived by regular synchronic rules. For the verb տենալ the two roots would տես տե because the imperative form տես while the infinitive uses տե(նալ), and there’s no Armenian rule of s-insertion/deletion. Granted one could analyze this as irregular weak suppletion (like keep, kep-t) where the two root shapes look pretty similar, so one could derive one (kep) from the other (keep) using very morpheme-specific phonological rules.
But anywho, the Wiktionary page of the verb is part of at least the Irregular Verbs category. So I can live with that, so not a big problem to have disagreement on doing fine-grained classification for a single verb. I’m ok with your final decision, even if status quo 😅 Hovsepig (talk) 15:45, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
