@Kaixinguo~enwiktionary: Do you believe esrâ'il is the correct transliteration for this? Why? Guldrelokk (talk) 10:53, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Guldrelokk: In اسرائیل (esrâ'il) hamze produces ' (apostrophe) and in اسراییل (esrâyil), ye stands for "y". Does that answer your question? Or you're referring to something else? --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 11:04, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Atitarev: I thought so and in اسرائیل I changed the transcription of اسراییل, listed as an alternative spelling, to esrâyil, but Kaixinguo~enwiktionary reverted me. Guldrelokk (talk) 11:33, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Guldrelokk, Kaixinguo~enwiktionary: Perhaps the pronunciation is identical or almost identical but graphically, a hamze, regardless of the seat it's on, should be '. I've added not so long ago WT:FA TR a bunch of symbols under "Other symbols or combinations" - no-one rebutted this yet. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 11:42, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The pronunciation is 'esrâ'il' in both cases, اسراییل is just the newer way of spelling it, it is the same word. There is no transcription of Persian on Wiktionary, there is a romanisation which acts as a guide to pronunciation. Kaixinguo~enwiktionary (talk) 11:48, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
[edit conflict] I just looked at پاییز and پائیز , they have been treated in the way you put it but I think it's a bit problematic, as they are not pronounced differently according to how they are written but rather depending on how careful/formal the speaker is being. TBH I'm 'done with' Persian transliteration as the Americans say, everyone just put what they want. Kaixinguo~enwiktionary (talk) 12:01, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Kaixinguo~enwiktionary: So you don’t think the romanisation should reflect different spellings? A typical transliteration does that, not being a transcription. Guldrelokk (talk) 11:59, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't care. Kaixinguo~enwiktionary (talk) 12:02, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Also, sorry, I didn't notice on your first edit that it was the romanisation of the alternative form that was changed, I thought you had changed the romanisation of the main entry. Kaixinguo~enwiktionary (talk) 12:07, 10 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
