The what now?[edit]

Previously the Persian entry stated

In premodern sources, ⁧روم⁩ (rum) usually refers to Byzantium or the former Byzantine territories in Anatolia, as medieval Persians did not have any clear knowledge of pre-Byzantine Rome.

Removed/emended as utter nonsense. French peasants didn't have a clear idea of Persia, either, but there were still centuries of interaction that the educated/wealthy could read up on if they so chose. — LlywelynII 18:48, 27 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ottoman Turkish[edit]

This page of Redhouse is entirely unclear but seems to be saying a variant form of this word was either ریم or رمِ (Rim). Not sure what the etymology would be either. Persian has رم but it's written ⁧رُم⁩ and pronounced Rom, neither or which seem to apply here. — LlywelynII 19:54, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
