@AryamanA I was confused about how to categorise this form of verb (what's it called, or any info that you could provide), when the preterite is used as equivalent to the future subjunctive. They both structurally are the same but represent very different ideas.

  • अगर वो करे तो? - This has a nuance of like a suggestion, like "what about is he does that thing?"
  • अगर वो किया तो? - This like kind of assumes that something surely is going to happen, and "what if it be the case/possibility that he does that in the future?"

Both are equivalent in the sense that both in a way act as the future subjunctive. English can't really properly translate these well but, the first one kind of talks about a decision that is going to be taken in the immediate future while the 2nd one (the perfective form) can only refer to distant future and can only be interrogative. They clearly represent two very different ideas. The use of preterite as the future subjunctive is not so commonly stuided in Hindi I guess, or is it?
