दन्तिन् & दन्तक

[edit]

@Pulimaiyi Is the Hindi-Urdu term from {{R:CDIAL}} 6163 dantín

H. dā̃tī f. 'harrow'

and 6153 dantaka

H. dā̃tā m. 'large tooth, tooth (of comb &c.)', dā̃tī f. 'tooth, cog'

instead of 6260 dā́tra², which mentions दराँती (darā̃tī)?Kutchkutch (talk) 05:36, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Kutchkutch: I did consider it, given the fact that one of the sources defines this term as a sickle with tooth-like projections, so I thought there would be an influence from the term dā̃t (tooth). But I ignored it, because this term fits well both semantically and formally with Middle-Indo-Aryan dattiyā and Old Indo-Aryan dā́tr-ikā. I did not check Turner. I do not oppose dantín being given as the etymon. -- 𝘗𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘺𝘪(𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘬) 06:30, 22 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
