Question[edit]

Is this the suffix one hears when listening to any spoken Hindi conversation, with many words ending in "-he"? 173.88.241.33 23:20, 18 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

No, that is है (hai) (which is not a suffix, simply the result of the verb being at the end of a phrase in Hindi). —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 23:25, 18 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Thank you; I am glad to finally know this! But why is it romanized "hai" when it definitely sounds like "he" (heh) when spoken? 204.11.186.190 15:38, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hindi spelling is more conservative than its pronunciation. Our romanisation for Hindi tries to represent the original spelling more faithfully. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 18:42, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
