Spelling of romanization

[edit]

I believe the spelling of "kĭng" should be spelled with a "kh" instead of a "k." 71.66.97.228 05:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

It depends on whether you’re contrasting g/k or k/kh. We have been using the former here and transliterate this with a k. If the dish ever gets an article on Wikipedia, it very likely will have kh. Transliteration of between languages that have quite different phonologies, as between English and Thai, is always problematic, and the transliteration is only a simple aid. To begin learning the language, you have to get beyond the transliterations and start relying on the original script. —Stephen 06:59, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
