Maybe this is also from Iranian *warx “wolf”, together with for example *wi “bird”, the bird being likened to the wolf by its predatory appearance and behaviour. @SolarkoidFay Freak (talk) 21:41, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Fay Freak: Oh that's interesting. If anything it has to be borrowed from an Iranian language then. Is there are language having the same construction? Georgian doesn't have any separate morphemes like those, so it can't be special only to Georgian. -Solarkoid (talk) 22:54, 3 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Solarkoid: I meant it may be borrowed in whole from a lost Iranian word, not thinking that it was formed in Georgian, it does not need to have to be attested in the Iranian group, given the attestation situation status of the whole Iranian language group and the observation that words for the pelican seem to have been continuously reinvented in the Orient.
