The words for cat in Western Georgian.

[edit]

@კვარია, I actually noticed this now but this reminds me of the word we use (I live in Kobuleti), ციფა. I mainly use this to call cats like "ციფა, ციფ ციფ ციფ", but since Mingrelian word also exists I think they could be related. I personally don't like comparing ციბა with ციცა (because of phonology) or ციბა/ჩიბა (because of semantic difference). What do you think? Does Mingrelian do this ფ ~ ბ alteration between two vowels? - Solarkoid (talk) 21:38, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply

Oh, also how about joining EN Wiktionary Discord. I have to advertise this for my own good because I'll have questions and such. If you're busy I totally understand - Solarkoid (talk) 21:42, 27 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Solarkoid: ციფ / ციბ (cip / cib) is used in Mingrelian also. Also in Imereti: ციფ”, in Imeruli leksiḳoni [Imeretian Dictionary]‎[1] (in Georgian), Kartuli dialekṭuri ḳorṗusi, 2006–2009. (I wasn't aware that this word is used in Imereti and Adjara despite having some relatives in both Samtredia and Chakvi..) Comparison with ციცა (cica) is indeed unjustified. For other words these are all probably interjection-y so maybe comparison with words for dogs isn't excluded კვარია (talk) 17:28, 31 August 2022 (UTC)Reply
