@RichardW57

Hello, precisely, H97 corrects H77 in adding the missing final ៈ.

Check also the Khmer wiktionary entry [[1]], and any other modern dictionary for that matter. Also check Google, YouTube videos, they all have and pronounce that final ៈ.

If you really want to keep this entry, ok, but at least can I make it a "alternative form" of the main entry? Thx.

@Sitaron: What about old dictionaries? Even more relevantly, what about old texts? Huffman's Cambodian System of Writing (1970) says on p52, "This symbol ... was only recently introduced", and gives the impression that the system of Chuon Nath was not universally followed. As far as I am aware, Cambodian was being written in 1900 - or was it some other language?

I won't object to you relating it as an alternative form, or even marking it as obsolete or archaic or some such. However, deletion requires RfD or RfV. --19:55, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

@RichardW57 You have a point for old dictionaries, but to paraphrase Headley, there is old and old. Some present an older reality, some others are just wrong for a reason or another (typos, misinterpretations, etc..), so we still need to keep an eye and cross-check references.
Regarding the "age" of the double dots, even the other dictionaries from the 60's-70's (Huffman Eng-Khm 1978, Tep Yok Fr-Khm 1968, including Chuon Nath 1967) show the double-dots, so Headley77 seems to be the odd one out. Moreover, when the variants with and without the double dots exist (without a change in pronunciation), he seems to indicate it (see ទន្តជ for instance). Surely I can't tell how systematic he was in doing so.
Earlier than that, Guesdon 1935 doesn't have this word. I don't have access to Tandart.

We should really be using quotations rather than dictionaries. Of course, that makes immediate process much slower. --RichardW57 (talk) 10:08, 4 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Anyway, I didn't mean to "delete" entries like in obliterating content, but really just correcting mistakes (as a matter of fact, the OCR'd version of H77 in Sealang is crippled in very obvious mistakes, and many unfortunately made their way to Wiktionary). I always check the dozen of resources I have at hand before doing so.
I will update the entry as an obsolete spelling. Thx.
