RFD discussion[edit]

Nagoya (city? what?)

Are any of these used attributively? If these are deleted, the alternate orthographies should probably go as well.. Cynewulf 18:01, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I feel we should revisit our CFI for place names, on the bases that the etymology can be interesting, and that someone finding a place name in some text they don't understand can get very confused when they don't find it in a dictionary. (The second basis is actually not so much a problem in English, but has confused me utterly on occasion in German, where all nouns are capitalised.) --Enginear 12:46, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. The last time it was an issue, we concluded that yes, we do want famous place names and place names that include (complete) interesting etymologies, but stopped short of defining what is meant by "famous." Since the analogous Wikipedia policy (notability) now has solidified (due to Uncle G's essay) we should revisit this in the beer parlour. --Connel MacKenzie 15:54, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, good. Then I won't have to go to the trouble of RFVing most of the US states for the same reason as these. ;) Cynewulf 16:12, 11 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
