Notes[edit]

@Poketalker:: I believe meaning 1 is simply a composition of なり and けり, nothing more than that, and follows the inflection of けり. Meaning 2 is rather a nominal, as in the example sentence:

  • マア一寸延れば尋のびると、なりけりにして置たが

@Huhu9001: it was professor @Cnilep who added the definitions; I started the article with {{rfdef|ja}} placeholders. Will separate the etymologies. ~ POKéTalker06:01, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
I think that けり and ける are used, but I don't know about けら. I found a few tokens of なりければ, but so far no なりけらず etc. Huhu9001 is correct about the derivation; Daijirin states as much. I also saw a few tokens of なりけらし, but I think that is なり+けり+らし ("it might have"). Cnilep (talk) 02:15, 1 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Huhu9001, Cnilep: remove irrealis, negative, and conditional in conjugation box, then? Usage notes can be added for more information. ~ POKéTalker06:00, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
I have no idea. -- Huhu9001 (talk) 23:49, 27 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
For negative form, main verb なり should be firstly conjugated to its negative form なら (some composed forms of -(a)zu auxiliary verb use -ar- (from あり): -zu ar- => -zar- (similarly to how it is in some forms of adjectives)), and then adding けり results in ならざりけり. I have applied this change. Irrealis and conditional forms look morphologically correct to me. Arfrever (talk) 16:49, 8 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
