Formatting

@Fish bowl: re: {{attn|ja|use Template:name translit}}, I'm not familiar with that one at all. Thanks for the pointer! When I was expanding the entry, I was unhappy with just straight {{bor|ja|en}}, since that implies that it's used in Japanese as a name, used also for people being named in Japan, which is incorrect. Actually, now that I'm reading the template docs, that template requires certain parameters that make it less appropriate for this particular entry:

• Requires specifying source language -- we have two here, and splitting this up is difficult (for "Paul" especially, since we don't know for sure which language is the source, either EN or FR), and splitting just duplicates a lot of unimportant boilerplate.
• Requires a name category -- some are both surname and given name.

I'll use the basic wording of the template, and add the cat, but I can't figure out how to use the template itself as it is currently implemented (and I don't have time this week to muck about with the template).

It's a rather new template, so don't worry :)

Source language -- It would be the same as writing "{{bor|ja|en|NAME}} or {{bor|ja|fr|NAME}}", and it is used for both English and French (nationality) individuals anyway, so this doesn't seem like something to dwell on to me.

Name category -- It's not in the documentation but at any rate one can use |type=surname|type2=male given name or |type=surname,male given name

And yes, I was bothered by the same thing ("used in Japanese as a name") and recently cleaned up most of (all of?) Category:Japanese given names using this template. —Fish bowl (talk) 22:48, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
