@Mlgc1998 Are you sure with Japanese etymology? And not Tagalog "Luzon"? --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:01, 26 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser: They were trading for a long time mostly in the north either directly with the Igorot or the Pangasinense or Ilocanos for their Tapayan jars as Shimamono and Mishima in the Nanban trade to make them into tea canisters that they painted over like this one. The articles in wikipedia all just keep saying that they called it as "呂宋壺" (ルソンつぼ Ruson-tsubo) which I think I read before that they seem to suggest that it was labeled somewhere on the jar with those characters imprinted on them or read from somewhere else, which leads me to think they likely knew of the island first by the chinese character kanji which they seemed to have read in their japanese phonology, ...or they could've just heard it from the first peoples they met and traded with in the north which they also still spelled in their typical japanese phonology which either way, all point back to that original derivation from Old Tagalog. The name "Luzon" that the Spaniards spelled it as (which the Portuguese spelled as "Luçon" or "Luçoes") from hearing "Lusong" from what they used to call the name of the Pasig river delta itself around Manila/Intramuros and Tondo, which before that, they also had those rice mortars being used there like as depicted in the Murillo Velarde map. I think the idea before was like some sort of allusion to Manila bay and the Pasig river to being like a big rice mortar that ships would enter into, which eventually referred to the whole island. The source saying that Luzon came from "Lusong" or "Lusung" which was the Old Tagalog name for the Pasig river delta was according to the Tondo wiki page that this source came from William Henry Scott's Barangay book but Google Books wouldn't let me see the preview pages.--Mlgc1998 (talk) 20:25, 26 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

"Mexico"

[edit]

Fish bowl (talk) 02:38, 9 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
