Zhangzhou Characters and Pronunciation[edit]
@Justinrleung The pronunciation here shows "ḿ-má" for the characters 姆媽, but in 闽南方言大词典, it gives "ḿ-má" and ""ńg-má" for the characters "咉媽". What do you suggest, for the entry? I think using "咉媽" is better. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:11, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser: 闽南方言大词典 has two entries for this, 姆妈 (page 310) and 咉妈 (page 425). I do agree that 咉媽 would be a better choice for consistency with other kinship terms, like 咉公. The ḿ pronunciation likely comes from assimilation with 媽, rather than having to do with 姆. Other ways of writing this include 影妈 (漳州方言词汇 by 林宝卿) and 阮妈 (普通话闽南方言常用词典, also edited by 林宝卿).
