@Tooironic Hi. I don't think this word should be defined as "from the start; from the beginning". Here is the made-up sentence I use to demonstrate the difference between “從新” and “from the start; from the beginning”:

從新讀這本兒書。 = [I read it sometime before, then] I read this book again.

Isn't that 重新? According to the 現代漢語規範詞典: “從新”跟“重新”不同。“從新”是從新的起點開始(做某事);“重新”多指以前做過的事再做一次。Dictionaries also list 從頭 as a synonym. I think though 重新, 從新 and 從頭 are probably used interchangeably. ---> Tooironic (talk) 12:16, 5 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
