[edit]Can this also translate as "philosophy"? 71.66.97.228 19:39, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- Philosophy' is too wide a word, so I guess you could squeeze it in depending how you want to translate the text. Ideology would probably be a better translation for it, e.g. 毛泽东思想 - Mao's ideology or philosophy. Same difference to me. Jamesjiao → T ◊ C 19:45, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, this would make for a great Wiktionary usage note, or possibly even a full-blown Wikipedia article. From what I've read, Chinese communist doctrine makes a distinction between 主义, 思想 and 理论. They are not generally interchangeable, when referring to specific concepts related to Chinese Communist ideology. The hierarchy of concepts are as follows:
- 马克思列宁主义 (Marxism/Leninism)
- 毛泽东思想 (Mao Zedong Thought)
- 中国特色社会主义理论体系 (Socialism with Chinese characteristics)
- 邓小平理论 (Deng Xiaoping Theory)
- “三个代表”重要思想 (Three Represents)
- 科学发展观 (Scientific Development Concept)

- I have a book somewhere that explains all this in considerable detail. I'll have to see if I can find it and dig it out. -- A-cai 22:59, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
