Min Dong

[edit]

@Justinrleung Is it possible that the source is wrong with the sandhi? The Fuzhou source says /t͡sʰieu³³ (t͡s-)ʒai³³ pʰouŋ²¹³/, but I can only manage to make it /t͡sʰieu³³⁻³⁵ (t͡s-)ʒai³³ pʰouŋ²¹³/. Mar vin kaiser (talk) 03:42, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Mar vin kaiser: Maybe. @Michael Ly, do you know if this is the case? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 05:11, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Mar vin kaiser @Justinrleung I see this on YDict too, and agree that this looks more like an error at the source. The post-sandhi tone pattern of /˧ ˧ ˨˩˧/ 上聲+上聲+陰去 is not attested as possible in my sources; two mid-level tones in the non-final position could only come from a final syllable with the tones /˥/ 陰平, /˥˧/ 陽平, /˥ʔ/ 陽入, /˧/ 上聲. The more 'natural' parsing of syllables into sandhi domains, 2+1, agrees with my verbal source(s) [including the lack of softening, at least in careful speech]. @Michael Ly: I see. Does that mean the entry as it currently stands looks okay, or would it be chiū-cāi-*póng? — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 19:58, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
To my ears, chiū-cāi-*póng sounds more correct, and corresponds better to my informant's pronunciation. Michael Ly (talk) 20:08, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Michael Ly: Great, I’ve changed it accordingly. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 21:56, 2 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
